Why learn Biblical Values?

The Holy Bible is not just any book. It’s unique. It took 1,500 years and more than 40 authors inspired by God to write it: Moses, a judge, David, a king, Joshua, a general, Nehemiah, a cupbearer, Daniel, a prime minister, Solomon, a philosopher, Luke, a physician, Matthew, a tax collector, Paul, a rabbi, and Mark, a secretary.

David wrote in times of war and sacrifice; Solomon in times of peace and prosperity. Different authors wrote out of joy, out of sorrow, out of doubt, out of conviction.

Written on three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe, in three languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

The best and most accurate history of the ancient world, translated into 2,200 languages, with more to go.

What does the Bible say about itself?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.” Mark 13:31

Jesus told his disciples in the upper room “that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms concerning me” (Luke 24:24). He was talking about the Old Testament, the part of the Bible that predicted the Messiah.

Other books also claim divine inspiration, but this is the only one where the prophecies actually came true. (That hasn’t been the case for the Koran, the Book of Mormon, or the [Hindu] Veda.)

It was hand written on the skins of animals. How accurately were these copied? The oldest Hebrew Bible until recently was copied 1,100 years ago. The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered a few decades ago, and they were more than 1,000 years older, before the time of Christ. But the copy of the book of Isaiah that was 1,100 years old was 95% identical to the copy that was 2,200 years old. The differences were minor, not differences in meaning.

Concerning the New Testament, there are about 25,000 partial and complete handwritten copies in about a dozen languages and they are in essential agreement.

Archaeological discoveries, like stone engravings, confirm the facts and places mentioned in the Bible. The Bible was the first book to be printed when the printing press was invented 500 years ago. Every year, it’s likely to be the No. 1 best-selling book in the world.
