Becoming a Christian

Many people pass through several phases Becoming a Christian. Know and Trust a Christian. Become Curious about Christianity. Become Open to Change. Seek Jesus. Move from lost to Saved. And then Become a Disciple.

Becoming a Christian

These phases are described in a book called Breaking the Huddle [1] which explains “how [many] people journey toward Jesus naturally.” They cross these five “thresholds”.

  1. To know and trust a Christian.
  2. Become curious about Christianity, Jesus or faith.
  3. Become open to change.
  4. Go from meandering to seeking Jesus.
  5. Move from lost to saved (i.e., start to follow Jesus, make a decision for Jesus, invite Jesus into their heart, become a Christian, convert, show evidence of regeneration, be born again).

Only a few Christians describe themselves as an evangelist. But many Christians help people move from one phase to the next.

You might be an evangelist and not realize it. You may be able to sense what phase someone is in, and help him or her cross the next threshold.

Jesus took the Samaritan woman at the well through all five phases in one meeting. John 4: 1-26

And “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.” John 4:39.
