Attitude is defined as, “a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.”

ATTITUDE CAN CHANGE HOW I ACT AND rESPOND

Learn a whole new approach to Attitude and behavior summarized below and expanded greatly in the video that follows.

The world thinks, “What’s in it for me is the way.” I don’t have to think that way any more.

A new way of thinking will change how I act and respond. That comes when Christ gives me a new heart. Then I can live from that perspective. I will be different when life comes at me . We’re able to renew our minds to the way God sees us.

An intimate walk with Christ in our attitude will guard our heart when choosing what to read, listen to, watch, discuss and how we spend our time.

The Gospel is about this kind of transformation and change. It tells us not to let life speak louder than truth. You don’t have to try to get to heaven. You don’t have to strain. When heaven comes into you, you change your life.

People will then look and see there’s something different about you. It’s because your attitude changed. God shows you that better way.

HOW IMPORTANT IS ATTITUDE?

Attitude “is more important than the past, … education, … failures, … successes, … what other people think, say or do, … appearance, giftedness, or skill.” Life is 10% what happens and 90% how we react to it. “We are in charge of our attitudes.”

Biblical Principles

Proverbs 4:23

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

What does the verse say?

What does the verse mean?

1 Chronicles 28:9

“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

Psalm 94:11

11 The Lord knows all human plans;
he knows that they are futile.

Who searches all hearts?

What else does He do?

What does the Lord know?

Matthew 15:18-19

18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Where do my words come from?

What bad things can come from the heart?

Psalm 51:10

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

What can we ask God to do for us in building a Godly attitude?

Philippians 2:3-11

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature[a] God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Whose attitude should I have? (Verse 5)

What kind of attitude did He have?

What did He do?

What kind of reward did He receive?

Summary Statements

  • God knows your mind (1 Chronicles 28:9, Psalm 94:11; Jeremiah 17:10).
  • Attitudes can be positive or negative.
  • We are to guard our thoughts because attitudes become actions (Proverbs 4:23).
  • Christ is the Supreme Example of proper attitude resulting in proper actions (Phil 2:3-8).

Principles That Work

  1. When we have a humble, serving attitude at work, we are obeying God’s Word and we are “successful” in His eyes. The right attitude is proof of our commitment to God.
  2. Servanthood is learned in the workplace.
  3. In the professional work environment, it is often our attitude more than our aptitude or ability that determines success.
  4. We should be known for the positive attitude that we bring to the work environment.
  5. Adversity gives us the opportunity to validate our faith by the way we respond.
  6. Handling work responsibilities with a proper attitude will reap benefits for you. A bad attitude will also have consequences.

“life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react”

Attitude

“The longer I live the more I realize the impact of attitude in our life. Attitude is more important than facts … the past … education … failures … successes … what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past – – we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we do is play on the one string we have and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you – we are in charge of our attitudes.
